If we took out all of the extra features in today's consoles, could there be better graphics and gameplay?

Today, game consoles are no longer game consoles. They are truly entertainment systems. But if we were to take out all of the internet, and add-ons, etc. would we be able to make games with better graphics, and maybe better gameplay? Just a musing.
